African Seeds Group (“ASG”) is a Level 2 BBBEE company jointly owned by Sakhumnotho Group Holdings (“SGH”) and Zaad Holdings (“Zaad”). We are proud to announce to all stakeholders, that ASG has played a leading role in facilitating the acquisition of the Orkney Seed Processing Facility (previously known as “Senwes Orkney Seed” from Senwes Ltd. The transaction became effective on 1 February 2023.

Following this acquisition, the business will be known as ZAR Seed Production (Pty) Ltd. ZAR Seed Production will be jointly owned by ASG (74.9%) and Zaad (25.1%)

Since its formation in 2018, ASG has looked to play a leading role in the South African seed industry. Our shareholders since 2021, SGH and Zaad, have fully supported the business’s strategic and growth aspirations. This acquisition will ensure that ASG is further integrated into the seed value chain – building a stronger and more robust foundation for future growth.

Orkney Seed will continue its operations without disruption and the existing management and team will remain in place. Mr Vernon Kantor will take over the role of Operations Manager, and ASG Managing Director, Mr Mihan Louw, will also act as Managing Director for ZAR Seed Production.

Sakhumnotho Group Holdings acting CEO, Ms Kholofelo Masoga, said that “since our strategic investment in 2021, ASG has become a core part of our investment portfolio – especially in the Agricultural sector. We are proud to expand our portfolio through this acquisition with our co-shareholders the Zaad Group.

Zaad Holdings CEO, Antonie Jacobs, commented that “Zaad is excited to further strengthen our relationship with Sakhumnotho through this transaction. This facility is strategically important to the Zaad Group as it allows us to expand our seed cleaning services offering to subsidiaries, associates and 3^rd party clients in future”.
